GHANA'S PRISONS OVERCROWDED BY 3,810 INMATES

Ghana's 43 prisons are designed to accommodate  9,875 prisoners but are currently holding 13,685 prisoners.
Of the total, 189 are females and 137 are on death row include 3 females, the acting Director General of the Ghana Prison Service, Mr Emmanuel Adzator, has said the launch of the 10th anniversary of the Prison Ladies Association Service (PRILAS) in Accra.
The one-week celebration is on the theme: “Celebrating a proud past: empowering the female prison officer for excellence”.
The convicts are mostly in the youth bracket, Mr Adzator said.
