the Indian Supreme Court said people convicted of burning their wives for bringing insufficient dowry or for any other reason should be awarded capital punishment.The Vacation Bench comprising Justices Markandey Katju and Deepak Verma said "if these people are hanged, only then will this barbaric practice stop."
They were hearing the case of Rajni, who was burnt to death by her husband Mahender Gulati, his elder brother Prem Kumar and his wife Vimla on December 9, 2003.
