January 1, 2023 - On the first day of the new year, the death sentences of five Kurdish prisoners from Kermanshah province, previously convicted in a joint case for armed robbery and banditry, were carried out in Karaj Central Prison.
This news had already been published immediately after the fact, but without the names of the hanged men being known.
According to a report now received by Hengaw, at dawn on Monday, January 1, 2024, the executions were conducted for Manouchehr Aqabi, Dariush Shekarzadeh, Masoud Rostami, Navkhas Maleki, and Afshin Mohammadi in Karaj Central Prison.
Hengaw received information that Manouchehr (Hujtollah Aqabi) and Navkhas Maleki (Malkizadeh) were both from Eslamabad e Gharb, while the other three prisoners hailed from Kerend-e Gharb and Bisotun.
The "Mizan" news site affiliated with the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran reported that these five individuals had been sentenced to death for charges, including "numerous armed, violent robberies, and banditry in Alborz province and other parts of the country."
According to Hengaw, these five prisoners were arrested approximately a decade ago and were sentenced to death by the Karaj Revolutionary Court.
