(April 24, 2023) - Ahmad Nikouyi (Nikoui) executed in Rajai Shahr (Gohardasht) Prison on April 24.
Though Iranian law proscribes stoning for adultery, a punishment last carried out in 2010 after international pressure raised the political cost of its use. Those sentenced to stoning are secretly executed by hanging instead.
According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was executed in Rajai Shahr (Gohardasht) Prison on April 24. His identity has been established as 37-year-old Ahmad Nikouyi who was sentenced to death for adultery.
An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Ahmad Nikouyi was sentenced to death for charges of having sexual relations with a married woman. He was transferred to the gallows from Ward 7 of Karaj Prison.”
No information is available about the married woman in the case. At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.
