May 28, 2026 - IRAN. Esmaeil Ramazanpour sentenced to death. A ‘protester’
Esmaeil Ramazanpour, a 38-year-old resident of Yazd, has been sentenced to death following his arrest during the December 2025-January 2026 protests, a trial conducted without access to a lawyer of his choosing, and torture in pre-trial detention.
A source, who spoke to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN), said: “This civilian was arrested by security forces in Yazd during the December-January protests and taken to a security detention centre in the city. He was tortured at that detention centre to extract forced confessions, and upon completion of the interrogation period was transferred to the city’s central prison.”
The source further stated: “This detained civilian, in the course of an unfair trial during which he was denied the right to a lawyer of his choosing, was sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court in Yazd on charges including moharebeh [enmity against God], assembly and collusion to commit crimes against internal national security, and deliberate destruction of public property – specifically the burning of Yazd Municipality’s building – with the intent of acting against the sacred system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Ramazanpour, who comes from Fars Province, has been formally informed of the death sentence at Yazd Central Prison.
