27 December 2025 :
December 25, 2025 - IRAN. HoC: 2100 executions. On 24 December, Iran reached and exceeded 2100 hangings since the beginning of 2025.
With the 25 executions on the 23rd, and the 21 on the 24th of December, Iran has carried out at least 2105 executions during 2025. Preliminary reports on 25 December have been published, and at least three more executions were also carried out on the 25th.
The number of 2000 executions had been reached and exceeded only a week ago, on 17 December.
According to Hands off Cain's database*, 65 executions involved women, 21 of whom were convicted for drugs, 40 for murder (usually of their husbands), 1 for political offences, and 3 for offences not identified by the NGOs.
Among the 2043 men hanged, 947 were convicted of murder, 938 of drug offences, 34 of sexual violence, 52 of political offences and/or espionage on behalf of Israel, 5 of armed robbery, 7 of other offences, and 61 of unidentified offences.
Of the men executed, 7 were under the age of 18 at the time of the crime for which they were convicted.
11 executions were carried out in public: 10 for murder, and 1 for rape.
For comparison, HoC's data-base had arrived at 967 executions in 2024, 877 in 2023, 646 in 2022, 377 in 2021, 284 in 2020, 298 in 2019, and 328 in 2018.
Either the NGOs' “discovery” work is much improved, or one must take note that the Iranian regime is making a frenzied use of executions, which is unprecedented in its past, with the exception of 1988, when an estimated 5,000 to 10,000 political prisoners were executed between July and August.
