13 October 2008 :

the Senate approved the draft law for ratifying Protocol 13 of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Liberties, relative to the abolition of the death penalty in all circumstances.
The definitive green light by the assembly at Palazzo Madama followed approval by the Chamber of Deputies on September 24.
