JORDAN WOMAN SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR KILLING HUSBAND

20 January 2009 :

a Jordanian woman, 31, was sentenced to death by the criminal court for murdering her husband, a judicial official said.
"In March 2007, she poisoned her 30-year-old husband's lemon juice when he was drunk and then chopped his body up into pieces with an axe." He said the woman tried to burn the body remains but later decided to bury them in areas "near the (military-run) Queen Alia Hospital in east Amman and the private Applied Sciences University in the north of the capital."
"She told police that her husband abused her during their ten year marriage," the official added. She can appeal the death verdict, which requires approval by the council of ministers as well as King Abdullah II.
