A female Nigerian student was sent to the gallows by the Malaysian High Court after she was found guilty of trafficking 765.9gm of metamphetamine at the KL International Airport (KLIA) four years ago.Judge Datuk Ghazali Cha made the decision after finding that the prosecution had managed to prove its case against 30-year-old Mary George Unazi, beyond a reasonable doubt.
In his judgement, Ghazali said the accused’s defence, on the other hand, was merely a bare denial.
He said the private college student had also failed to prove that the bag containing the drug was not hers.
Unazi was found to have committed the offence at the baggage claim area at the international arrival hall of KLIA on May 10, 2011.
She was charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 of Malaysia which carries a mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Siti Noorbaya Jamil prosecuted, while Unazi was represented by lawyer Sangeet Kaur Deo.
