MOROCCO: KING MOHAMMED VI GRANTS ROYAL PARDON TO 2,052 CONVICTS

On the occasion of the Throne Day, King Mohammed VI has granted a royal pardon to 2,052 people sentenced by different Moroccan courts, said a statement released by the Ministry of Justice on July 29, 2023.
The pardon benefited 1,769 detainees, 133 of whom benefited from a pardon over their remaining prison terms.
Additionally, 1,632 prisoners had their prison terms reduced, and one had her death sentence commuted to life imprisonment.
Furthermore, three inmates had their prison sentences commuted from life imprisonment to fixed terms.
The pardon also included 283 free beneficiaries, 80 of whom benefited from pardon over their prison sentences or what remains of them.
In addition to those, 14 inmates benefited from pardon over their imprisonment terms while their fines were maintained, and 180 people had their fines annulled;
Eight people benefited from pardon over their imprisonment terms and their fines were annulled, while one person benefited from pardon over their remaining prison term and had his fine annulled.
Royal pardon is customary in Morocco to mark national and religious holidays such as the Throne Day, which celebrates the King’s accession to the throne.
