At least six death row prisoners were executed between August 4 and 5 in different jails of Punjab. According to Samaa correspondent, murderer Laghir Maseeh was hanged in Sialkot District Jail on August 4. He was convicted for 2003 abduction and murder of a child. The same day, another death row prisoner, Ghulam Rasool, was executed in Gujrat district jail. He was awarded death penalty for a student’s murder in 2000. Four death row prisoners were executed on early August 5 morning, Dunya News reported.According to details, death row convict Waqar Ahmad was hanged in Gujranwala Central Jail. Waqar had killed five people, including three little girls, in Mianwali Bangla area in the jurisdiction of Police Station Satra in 2000 over an old enmity.
Three death row prisoners, Amanullah, Mumtaz and Muhammad Riaz, were executed in Central Jail Mianwali. Amanullah, Mumtaz and Muhammad Riaz had killed three people by firing in Sessions Court Mianwali. An Anti Terrorist Court had sentenced them in 2009. Since the de facto ban on capital punishment ended on 17 December 2014, at least 208 people, including 25 convicted terrorists, have been executed across the country.
