TANZANIA: KARAGWE MAN TO HANG OVER FRIEND'S MURDER

20 March 2015 :

A resident of Karagwe District in Kagera Region, Mulokozi Anatory, is to be hanged for killing his friend and chopping off his sensitive body parts, including the male organ, ear and tongue, for use in superstition-based rituals.
Justices Nathalia Kimaro, Bernard Luanda and Ibrahim Juma dismissed the appeal lodged by Anatory to challenge both conviction and death sentence imposed on him by the High Court.
They ruled that the grounds of appeal lodged by Anatory to fault the judgment given by High Court Judge Gad Mjemmas lacked merit.
During hearing of the appeal, Anatory had claimed, among other grounds, that the trial judge grossly erred in law and fact to base the conviction on the caution statement, which he argued was induced by threat and torture.
The prosecution had alleged on January 17, 2010, at Kigarama Village within Karagwe District in Kagera Region, the appellant killed one Shukuru Telesphory.
