(March 31, 2023) - The House Judiciary Committee approved House Bill 555, which would create the lowest death penalty threshold in the country.
A day after the Senate passed its version of the bill, the House Committee on Friday approved a measure that would eliminate a requirement for unanimous jury recommendations before judges can impose death sentences.
The committee voted 14-7 to approve the proposal, which is now ready to go to the full House.
The Senate on Thursday voted 29-10 to pass its bill.
