12 February 2026 :
Somalia’s Military Court on February 10, 2026 carried out the execution by firing squad of two men convicted of committing multiple killings in the capital, Mogadishu.
Authorities identified the individuals as Cabdi Cabdulqaadir Maxamed, also known as “Xuseen,” and Farxmaan Maxamuud Cabdinuur Aadan, also known as “Xasan.” The two had been accused and found guilty of involvement in the killing of four people.
The sentence was carried out after the Military Court concluded that both men were active members of Al-Shabaab.
According to officials, the First Instance Military Court had previously heard evidence presented by prosecutors, as well as submissions from defense lawyers representing the accused, before issuing the death sentences that were implemented in the morning.
The executions were conducted following “the conclusion of judicial proceedings that included investigations, prosecution, and legal defense, in line with procedures of the Military Court”, the court said.
Somalia’s federal prisons, including Mogadishu’s Central Prison, currently hold several other individuals sentenced to death by firing squad after appearing before the Military Court. Those on death row include persons accused of affiliation with Al-Shabaab, as well as members of the security forces convicted of killing civilians or fellow soldiers.
