Reza Akbari was hanged at Zanjan prison on March 20. The man, aged 34, had been convicted of murder and was in prison for six years. He was transferred to the solitary confinement two days before the execution.

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has demanded in a legal communication to Bangladeshi authorities that the death sentence given to her by a tribunal last year be set aside as “legally void”, and that any further proceedings against her be conducted in compliance with international fair trial standards.
