A military court in the Gaza Strip on August 6, 2023 sentenced seven people to death by hanging for “collaboration” with Israel, the coastal enclave’s Hamas-run interior ministry said.
The court also sentenced seven others to “life imprisonment with hard labor,” which in Gaza amounts to 25 years, the ministry said in a statement.
Regarding those sentenced to death, the court said they had provided information to Israel on terror groups in Gaza — including names, phone numbers, addresses and weapons caches — in return for money, the Maan News agency reported. One of the defendants was allegedly given a permit to work in Israel in return for information he provided.
The terror group Hamas controls Gaza, and the military court there has regularly issued death sentences for people found guilty of “collaboration” with Israel.
Under Palestinian law, a death sentence requires the approval of the president of the Palestinian Authority, which is headquartered in the West Bank.
But since Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip in 2007 it has repeatedly ignored this, and last September executed two Palestinians for “collaboration” with Israel as well as three others for murder.
In April, two people were sentenced to death and four others were given life sentences on the same charges of collaborating with Israel.
At least 17 death sentences were issued in 2022 in the Gaza Strip.

A military court in the Gaza Strip convicted on 3 April 2023 six people of "collaboration" with Israel, sentencing two of them to death.
The court said in a statement the death sentences would be carried out "one by firing squad and the other by hanging".
It added the four others were handed "life sentences with hard labour", which in Gaza amounts to 25 years.
Those convicted were not identified by officials in the Palestinian territory, which has been run by Islamist group Hamas since 2007, nor were details of their cases published.
Under Palestinian law, a death sentence requires the approval of the president of the Palestinian Authority which is headquartered in the occupied West Bank.
But Hamas has repeatedly ignored this and in September executed two Palestinians for "collaboration" with Israel as well as three others.
These executions, condemned by the United Nations Human Rights Office, were the first in the coastal territory in more than five years.

31 July 2023 :

Two drug dealers were sentenced to death and several others were given life in prison by the Appeal and Military Courts in Gaza on July 25, 2023.
The Court of Appeal announced that it had issued 14 sentences against drug dealers. They range from two years to life in prison, as well as one death sentence. All of the sentences were issued in the presence of the criminals.
Meanwhile, the Military Court said that it issued 18 sentences.
Lengthy terms of imprisonment and a death sentence were handed down, with some defendants being acquitted.
All of the sentences, said the court, are subject to appeal.

05 February 2023 :

The Supreme Criminal Chamber of the Court of First Instance in Gaza on 30 January 2023 sentenced a 30-year-old man to death by hanging, following his conviction for possession and trafficking of narcotics to Israel, based on the indictment materials and pursuant to Article 415 of the Law of Penal Procedures No. 3 of 2001.
This is the first death sentence issued by the Gaza judiciary in 2023 and the 59th since the State of Palestine ratified the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) in 2019, which aims at the abolition of the death penalty.
