BANGLADESH. BROTHERS HANGED TOGETHER FOR TRIPLE MURDER

09 July 2005 :

two Bangladeshi brothers walked to the gallows together and were hanged simultaneously for the murder of three people.
Monowar Hussain, 46, and Sanowar Hussain, 42, were executed at the central jail in southwestern Jessore at one minute after midnight (1801 GMT 02/06/2005), prison superintendent Azizul Haq said.
Post-mortem examinations had been carried out and the bodies were to be handed over to their family later in the day.
A court in 1997 handed down the death sentence to the two brothers and their father, Abdul Aziz, for killing three people over a land dispute four years earlier.
The country's High Court upheld the brothers' sentences but reduced Aziz's sentence to life imprisonment although he later died in jail.
The brothers' final appeal was turned down by the president on May 9. The executions were the second and third to be carried out in the country in 2005.
