BANGLADESH: SIX SENTENCED TO DEATH IN KHADEM MURDER CASE

A Dhaka court on 25 April 2019 sentenced six to death and another to life term imprisonment for killing administrative officer of Dhaka deputy commissioner's office Aminul Haque Khadem alias Anis Khadem in 2009, reports UNB. The condemned convicts are- Mahabub Alam Liton alias Dat Bhanga Liton, Sheikh Shamim Ahmmed, Md Jewel, Kamal Hossain Biplob, Shahidur Rahman Khadem and Sohel alias Cats Eye Sohel while the lifer is Abdullah Mohammad Nazim Uddin Babu alias TNT Babu, alias Chula Babu.
Among them Liton, Biplob and Babu were tried in absentia.
The court also fined Babu Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer one year more in jail.
According to the prosecution, Aminul Islam Khadem was gunned down by the convicts in front of Malibagh Shahi mosque on 3 May, 2009 over grabbing property of a mazar.
