BANGLADESH: YOUTH GETS DEATH PENALTY FOR KILLING CHILD IN CTG

A Chattogram court on June 9, 2024 sentenced a youth to death for killing a five-year-old child at Mirsari upazila in the district in 2010.
The court also acquitted another accused and convict’s brother Kazi Iqbal Hossain Biplob in the case as no allegation was proved against him.
Robiul Awal, the judge of Chattogram First Additional District and Sessions Court, pronounced the verdict convicting Kazi Nahid Hossain Pollob, who hailed from Mogadia village under Mirsari upazila.
The court also fined him Tk 50,000, in default, he will have to suffer another six months jail.
According to the prosecution, the convicted person strangulated his neighbour, a five year old child Kazi Moshiur Rahman Washim, son of Kazi Mosharrf Hossain Bablu, to death over a land dispute on November 22, 2010 beside their residence.
Later, the victim’s uncle Kazi Enamul Hoque filed a murder case with Mirsarai Police Station accusing the convicted, his parents and a brother on November 23 in 2010.
Police submitted a charge sheet before the court on May 7, 2012 accusing four people after the investigation.
The court framed charges against two brothers as their parents died before framing the charges on February 3, 2013.
The court pronounced the verdict on June 9 after examining 21 prosecution witnesses and awarded the judgement convicting Kazi Nahid Hossain Pollob in presence of him.
