Michael Lambrix, 57, White, was executed.
He was sentenced to death on March 22, 1984 in the January 1983 murders of Aleisha Bryant and Clarence Moore.
Lambrix said he was innocent. The 57-year-old Lambrix had filed an appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court, arguing that his execution should be halted after Florida's death penalty sentencing method was found to be unconstitutional.
The state has since required a unanimous jury vote in death cases. The jury wasn't unanimous in either of Lambrix's death sentence decisions, but Florida's Supreme Court has said the new rules don't apply to cases as old as his.
Lambrix was the second person executed in Florida in 2017, the 94th person executed in Florida since the state resumed executions in 1979, the 19th in the United States in 2017, and the 1,461st person executed in the United States since 1977.
