IRAQ: A TERRORIST SENTENCED TO DEATH, DRUG DEALERS GET LIFE IMPRISONMENT

The Supreme Judicial Council stated on February 26, 2024 that a terrorist had been given the death penalty for setting off a car bomb close to the Prophet Ayyub 's shrine. They also mentioned that drug dealers had received a life sentence from the Basra Criminal Court.
"A terrorist was sentenced to death by the Dhi Qar Criminal Court for setting off a car bomb close to the Prophet Ayyub shrine in Hilla city," the SJC said in a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
In 2011, two cars belonging to the courts of appeal of Babil and Qadisiyah suffered damage from an explosion that resulted in the deaths of eight citizens and the injuries of fifty others. The statement further stated that the verdict was rendered in accordance with Article II/1/3/7 of the Anti-Terrorism Law No. 13 of 2005.
According to the statement, "two life sentences were handed down against two individuals found guilty of the crime of trafficking in narcotics by the Basra Criminal Court."
