IRAQ: FINAL ASSAULT AGAINST THE MUJAHEDIN IN ASHRAF

President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

11 April 2011 :

"currently in Iraq the final assault is taking place on the anti-regime People's Mujahedin of Iran resistance group. For more than two decades they have lived in northern Iraq and the international community has started to recognise them as a credible political presence,” Radical parliamentarians Marco Perduca (co-vice president of the Non Violent Radical Party) and Elisabetta Zamparutti (Hands Off Cain treasurer) said.
“From what is understood by the National Council of Iranian Resistance, yesterday afternoon the Iraqi military forces opened fire on residents of the camp in Ashraf, in the north of the country. 31 are dead, 300 injured, and at least two were taken hostage.
According to a note released at dawn by the Council, armoured vehicles with machine guns are stationed at the entrance of the camp in Ashraf and the shooting continues. A delegation from the Non Violent Radical Party and Hands Off Cain visited the camp in November 2008.
We join an appeal by the leader of the Council of Iranian Resistance, Maryam Rajavi, who should be in Italy next week, asking the international community, starting with Europe (that also thanks to our trans-national and trans-party initiative removed the Mujahedin from the EU list of terrorist organisations), to ask the Iraqi authorities for an immediate ceasefire and to adopt all protection measures that were promised to the residents of Ashraf following the end of the war in Iraq”.
