JORDAN. DEATH VERDICT ON ISLAMISTS COMMUTED

09 October 2006 :

Jordan’s top appeals court commuted the death sentence of two convicted Islamists over a millennium bomb plot.
Khader Abu Hoshar and Osama Sammar were among six people sentenced to death by a Jordanian military tribunal in September 2000 for plotting attacks against Jews, US targets and tourist destinations in the kingdom.
Abu Hoshar and Sammar, the only two behind bars, appealed the sentence on several occasions before the court finally decided to commute it to life imprisonment, the government newspaper Al Rai reported.
The other four are still fugitives. Abu Hoshar, described as the ringleader, and Sammar were among 28 suspects who had been linked to Al Qaeda in the high-profile case.
