Tshikapa: a soldier sentenced to death for the murder of two colleagues

12 July 2018 :

25 May 2018: the military Court of Tshikapa (Kasai) condemned first class soldier Fabrice Aliata for a double murder. He killed the day before, an Army captain and a post commander.
During the trial held the following day of the murder, the accused admitted to having shot his colleagues.
But he referred to self-defence, claiming to have responded to the chief of staff of the headquarters who would have shot him first.
Argument rejected by the Court that sentenced him to the death penalty for this double murder.
Carporal Fabrice Aliata is also ordered to pay US $8 000 for compensation for damages suffered by the families of the two victims. He has five days to appeal this judgement.
The two soldiers killed were buried the next day at Tshikapa while the trial of their murderer was taking place.
