UAE. IRANIAN MAN GETS DEATH SENTENCE FOR SMUGGLING 282KG OF HASHISH

16 February 2007 :

a 45 year old Iranian man, identified as Jamshid Taher., was sentenced to death in the United Arab Emirates by the Sharjah Sharia Court for smuggling and selling 282 kilograms of hashish.
A Saudi man and seven Iranian men were also tried, but were acquitted due to lack of evidence. The Public Prosecution charged the men with smuggling and selling 282 kilograms of hashish on-board a commercial boat coming from Iran.
Jamshid T. was also charged with consuming drugs and using a fake passport. "All the evidence against my client was uncorroborated and insufficient to indict or arrest him. No drugs were found in his possession and his blood tested negative for drugs," the man’s lawyer argued.
