UNITED ARAB EMIRATES. DEATH SENTENCE FOR ROAD RAGE KILLER

07 January 2013 :

Abu Dhabi Criminal Court, sentenced the 25-year-old Emirati to death after finding him guilty of murdering 52-year-old Munir Ahmed, in a road rage incident. The killer’s younger brother was acquitted of the same charge. Prosecutors said the defendant repeatedly rammed his vehicle into the victim’s car after Ahmed refused to give way. He then forced Ahmed to pull over on the hard shoulder on Mussafah Road in Al Bateen and beat him with a stick when he got out of the car. Ahmed was taken to hospital, where he died 90 minutes later. A post-mortem examination confirmed Ahmed’s death was the result of the attack. He had multiple fractures and skull injuries. Ahmed’s brother Jamal said the family had asked for the harshest possible punishment. “Justice has been done”, he said. Both brothers had denied murder. The defendant who was convicted told the court at a previous hearing that he had acted “gently” after the cars collided and claimed the victim responded “with aggression and violence”. He admitted a fight then broke out. A police officer who attended the scene said the victim’s face was covered in blood.
