USA - Florida. The Florida Supreme Court vacated the death sentence imposed of Ted Herring because of intellectual disability

03 April 2017 :

The Florida Supreme Court vacated the 1982 death sentence imposed on Ted Herring and resentenced him life, finding that the state's court had applied an improper standard for evaluating whether he had impaired intellectual functioning and that, when the proper standard was applied, he had proven he had intellectual disability. Herring, 55, Black, was sentenced to death on March 1, 1982 for killing Norman Dale Hoeltzel, 29, a convenience store clerk, on May 29, 1981.
