USA - Nichols (Tennessee)

21 July 2020 :

Governor Gives Temporary Reprieve To Harold Wayne Nichols, 59. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee (Republican) said Friday, “I am granting Harold Wayne Nichols a temporary reprieve from execution until December 31, 2020, due to the challenges and disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.” The governor, who has declined to intervene in the 4 prior executions during his 1st term in office, offered no further explanation for his decision. The execution had been set for Aug. 4. Nichols earlier had chosen the electric chair for carrying out the death penalty. Family members of the victims were not happy with the decision. Nichols, 59, pleaded guilty to the 1988 rape and murder of Karen Pulley, 21, in Hamilton County. Nichols was sentenced to death in 1990.
