Taichin Preyor, 46, Black, was executed. As the lethal dose of pentobarbital began taking effect, he took several deep breaths, then began snoring, each sound decreasing in volume. Within a minute, all movement stopped. He was pronounced dead 19 minutes later at 9:22 p.m. Preyor was convicted in the Feb. 26, 2004 killing of Jami Tackett, 24, White, who court records identified as Preyor's drug supplier. She was stabbed in her home. Preyor also stabbed her boyfriend, who survived. He admitted to the facts, but said he was acting in self-defense. A Bexar County jury decided he should die on March 30, 2005. The execution was delayed for more than three hours to allow the US Supreme Court time to hear an appeal from Preyor's lawyer to spare his life, which the court rejected. The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles voted 6-0 Tuesday against recommending clemency for Preyor and the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals refused to stop the punishment. Preyor was the 5th death row inmate to be executed in Texas this year and the 543nd in Texas since 1982. It is the 16th death sentence carried out in the United States this year, and the n° 1458 since 1977.
