USA - William Emmett LeCroy

27 September 2020 :

William Emmett LeCroy was executed today in the federal system. LeCroy, now 50, White, was convicted of the October 2001 robbery, rape and murder of 30-year-old Joann Lee Tiesler in Gilmer County, Georgia. LeCroy was found guilty in March 2004 of carjacking resulting in death by a jury in the US District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, and sentence to death. LeCroy believed that Joann Tiesler was the babysitter who sexually abused him twenty years before and that he blamed the babysitter for many of the problems that he had had as an adult. LeCroy died by lethal injection at 9:06 p.m., the Department of Justice said in a news release. LeCroy's attorneys Tuesday appealed to the US Supreme Court for a stay of execution, but in the first order since Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's death, the court denied the request. It was the sixth federal execution since the Justice Department ended a 17-year hiatus on the practice in July. LeCroy becomes the 6th person executed this year by the federal system, the 9th person executed by the Federal Government since it resumed executions in 2001, the 13th person executed this year in the US, and the no. 1,525 since the US reintroduced the death penalty in 1976 and resumed executions in 1977.
