SUDANESE COURT UPHOLDS DEATH SENTENCE FOR FOUR ISLAMISTS
October 12, 2009: a Sudanese court upheld the death sentences handed to four Islamists for murdering US envoy John Granville and his driver Abdelrahman Abbas Rahama on January 1, 2008. According to reports, Granvilleās mother asked the court to uphold the death sentence according to Islamic law. The four men retracted their confessions, saying they were made under torture.
