IRAN: HANDS OFF CAIN, THE ITALIAN GOVERNMENT ACTIVATES IMMEDIATELY TO PROTECT THE FREEDOM TO MANIFESTATE AND THE LIFE OF THE YOUNG IRANIANS ARRESTED AT THE RISK OF DEATH PENALTY
January 2, 2018: Hands Off Cain turns to the Italian government to intervene urgently to protect the freedom of demonstration and against the possibility of the death penalty for many of those arrested, on charges of "Moharebeh" (war against God), advanced by the head of the Revolutionary Court of the province of Tehran. It is evident that the reassurance given by the Mullahs regime on respect for the right of demonstration provided for by the Iranian Constitution runs the limit of "not violating the cardinal principles of Islam", which, as always, leaves a free hand to repression. The at least 548 executions carried out in 2017 by Iran confirm the world record for the number of executions compared to the population. For Hands Off Cain this is emblematic of how Iran poses a threat to world security because it is primarily a threat to the security of the Iranian people. The street demonstrations of these days express it clearly, and people claim civil rights and an economic recovery that the current regime can promise but can not actually offer because they can also change the faces of the rulers but the nature of the power system, founded on the principle of Velayat-e Faqih, of the absolute primacy of the Supreme Guide, it can not change. This is demonstrated by the risk of the death penalty for demonstrators. So far, Italy, Europe and much of the West have been responsible for keeping this regime alive, refusing to place the issue of respect for human rights in talks with Iran as a priority. It is time to change strategy, to commit to human and civil rights, supporting the organized forces of opposition to the theocratic regime which, in the case of Iran, exist and are mainly represented by the National Council of Resistance of Iran.
