IRAN: MAN ARRESTED TWO WEEKS AGO HANGED IN PUBLIC
September 30, 2016: A man who was arrested about two weeks ago on murder and rape charges was hanged in public in the city of Neyshabur, in the Razavi Khorasan province (northeastern Iran).Â
According to the Iranian state-run news agency, Mehr, the execution was carried out in public in front of a crowd of people on the morning September 30.Â
The report identifies the prisoner as Mehdi N., 37 years old.Â
Such a short time between the arrest and execution of an individual indicates lack of due process, which according to reports by Iran Human Rights (IHR), is not uncommon in Iran.Â
IHR suspects "Mehdi N." may have not received a fair trial or the chance to defend himself. (Sources: Iran Human Rights, 02/10/2016)
