NIGERIA: TWO ROBBERS SENTENCED TO DEATH BY HANGING IN ADO-EKITI
January 24, 2020: Two middle-aged men, Ganiu Issah and Jamiu Idris, were sentenced to death by hanging for armed robbery in a court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, Lawyard.ng reported on 23 January 2020. Although they both pleaded not guilty, Justice John Adeyeye, in delivering his judgement, said that the prosecution counsel proved their case beyond every reasonable doubt and consequently found the two men guilty as charged. The convicts were reported to have carried out the robbery activity at D5 Progress Street, off Poly Road in Ado-Ekiti on 16 November 2016, and were charged to court on a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery. The prosecutor from the Ekiti State Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Kemi Ajumobi, told the court that the defendants robbed one Mr. Obanibi Adams of his Toyota Camry car, with Registration Number: LND 118 EA at gunpoint before they were later arrested at Isua-Akoko in Ondo state.
