CHINA: DEATH SENTENCE FOR KILLING WIFE

in China, the Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People's Court sentenced Qiu Jianhua to death with a reprieve of two years for killing his wife after she asked for a divorce.
Qiu was ordered to pay 480,000 yuan (US$70,330) to her family. The couple were married in January 2004 and Qiu said they had a good relationship.
But his wife told him in 2008 she had fallen in love with a man she met on the Internet. Qiu electrocuted her while she was asleep on April 18, 2008, then tried to commit suicide by slashing his wrists but was discovered by his parents.
