HANDS OFF CAIN. STOP WITH THE HYPOCRISY OF THE HUMANENESS OF LETHAL INJECTION

22 February 2006 :

Hands Off Cain Treasurer Elisabetta Zamparutti made the following statement regarding the events surrounding the case of Michael Angelo Morales:
“States which have recently passed from the electric chair, from hanging or from death by firing squad to that by lethal injection have presented their changes as advances in civility and as a more humane and painless way of executing a condemned person.
But what is happening at the moment in California show the hypocritical stance of those who believe in the ‘civility’ of lethal injection.
The fundamental issue regarding the death penalty is not the humaneness of the method of execution or that of the person sentenced to death but the humaneness of those who resort to such a punishment.
The United States is trying to sweeten the death penalty which, for them, has become a bitter pill to swallow. It is time for them, however, to recognise that the entire country, with its citizens and institutions, does not deserve to continue resorting to this form of punishment.”
