IRAN: JOURNALIST BOUTIMAR'S DEATH SENTENCE SUSPENDED

the death sentence issued in Iran to Kurdish journalist Hiwa Boutimar was suspended, the Association for the freedom of the press 'Information safety and freedom' (Isf) announced.
“Hiwa Boutimar informed us by telephone from the prison in Mariwan, where he was been held in recluse for two years, that the sentence was suspended, pending a review to be held in the next few months at the court in Sanandaj”, the Isf statement said. 'Colleagues Adnan Hassanpour and Abdolvahed 'Hiwa' Boutimar were sentenced to hang on June 16, 2007, for being 'mohareb', or an enemy of Allah.' 'Hassanpour was sentenced for his support of Kurdish minors in Iran. Hiwa was jailed for his repeated environmental protests against the destruction of the woods around Mariwan city', building construction and corruption by local officials.”
