IRAN: ONE PRISONER HANGED IN KARAJ

One prisoner was hanged in the Rajai Shahr Prison of Karaj, reported the Iranian daily newspaper Javan.
According to the report the prisoner who was identified as "Majid" was convicted of shooting to death another man on August 6, 2006 in Tehran.
Iran Human Rights’ sources reported that the prisoner who was hanged in Rajai Shahr Prison was "Seyed Majid Afzali" about 36 years of age from ward 6 of Rajai Shahr Prison.
According to Javan, three other death row prisoners who were convicted of murder and scheduled to be executed were pardoned by the families of the offended. According to the Iranian Islamic Penal Code murder is sentenced by retribution and the family of the offended can ask for blood money or pardon the offender.
