IRAN: TWELVE EXECUTIONS INCLUDING TWO IN PUBLIC

twelve prisoners were executed in six different Iranian cities. Two executions were carried out in public.
Six prisoners were hanged on charge of murder in Rajai Shahr prison of Karaj, reported the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA). They were identified as: Ali Taher Nezhad, Mohsen Rahmati, Shahriar Mozaffari, Meysam Chanbari, Mohammad Meghdadi and Mohammad Baba Ali. According to this report, Meysam Chanbari was 17 year old at the time of alleged offence.
A prisoner was hanged in public at Kozehgari Square of Shiraz where another two prisoners were hanged on 13 February, Mehr news agency reported. The prisoner, who was identified as A. Z., was convicted of armed robbery and murder and had been imprisoned since December 2011. Another prisoner was sentenced to amputation of one hand and foot on the same charges, said the report.
Another public hanging was carried out in the city of Khoy, West Azerbaijan Province, reported the Iranian State Broadcasting (IRIB). The prisoner, who was not identified by name, was convicted of murder and rape.
Four more prisoners were hanged in three different prisons in the Province of Gilan, reported the official website of the Iranian Judiciary. Two of the prisoners, identified as M. R. and M. P. and convicted of murder, were hanged in the central prison of Rasht. Two other prisoners, identified as F. A. and M. S. and charged with participation in trafficking of 2 kilograms of heroin and 2,880 grams of crack, were hanged in the prisons of Roudbar and Somesara said the report.
