IRAQ: AL-QAIDA LEADER SENTENCED TO DEATH

18 March 2011 :

the Iraqi Supreme Criminal Court sentenced al-Qaida leader Munaf al-Rawi and five of his aides to death, state-run Iraqiya television said. Maj. Gen. Qassim Atta said they were responsible for many terror attacks in the capital over two years, including suicide bombings.
The sentence was not a surprise and al-Rawi said in an Associated Press interview last May that he expected to be executed.
After his capture last year, al-Rawi led investigators to the two top al-Qaida leaders in Iraq, Abu Omar al-Baghdadi and Abu Ayyub al-Masri, both of whom were killed in a joint raid by U.S. and Iraqi security forces in last April.
