MALAYSIA: MAN SENT TO THE GALLOWS FOR WIFE'S MURDER

07 August 2013 :

The High Court in Alor Setar, Malaysia, sentenced a businessman to death by hanging after he was found guilty of murdering his wife last year.
Judicial Commissioner Datuk Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab also sentenced Wong Ban Chong, 55, to eight years' jail for voluntarily causing grievous hurt on another woman, Ch'ng Sheue Mei, 28.
Wong, who operated a excavator rental business, was charged with murdering Ung Siew Lim, 47, at a house in Taman Saga, Jalan Alor Mengkudu here at 2.17am on Feb 17 last year.
He was also charged with voluntarily causing grievous hurt on Ch'ng with a machete at the same place, date and time.
Mohd Zaki handed down the sentence after finding that the prosecution had succeeded in establishing the case beyond reasonable doubts against Wong.
He said Wong, in his defence, claimed that he was also injured when shielding attacks by the two women.
"However, based on the accused DNA profile, he was injured while trying to enter the house through a rear window," he said, adding that based on witnesses' testimony, Wong broke into the house by entering through the window.
Prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Siti Aishah Ab Rashid, while Wong was represented by lawyer Mohd Afza Dahari.
