A man convicted of murdering his brother-in-law with a sharp dagger was sentenced to death in Pakistan by District and Sessions Judge South Shahnawaz Tariq.
In his verdict, Justice Tariq said that the convict, Izzat Khan, murdered an innocent civilian, Fazal Din, and was therefore awarded capital punishment.
The judgment mentioned that the murderer had developed some differences with his wife, who had shifted to her brothers’ house in Korangi Town.
The convict visited the house of Fazal Din and his brother Saleem Khan to take his wife back home.
However, her brothers refused and the altercation resulted in Izzat Khan taking a dagger and stabbing Fazal Din to death. The other brother, Saleem Khan, also suffered serious injuries in the incident, but luckily survived and later lodged a case against Izzat Khan.
Saleem Khan registered a first information report (No 110/2006) under sections 302, 324 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
The court announced the death penalty under Section 302 of the PPC and also awarded ten years’ imprisonment under Section 324. It also imposed a Rs25,000 fine which would be given to the victim’s family as compensation. If the convict failed to pay the amount, he would have spend a further six months in jail.
