23 March 2011 :

Somalia’s al Qaeda-inspired group al Shabaab decapitated two Somali teenagers in the Hiran region in central Somalia.
“After an ambush attack against Somali government forces in Hiran region, the militant group captured my son and nephew who were working with their tanker truck in Ba’ad village,” the father of one of the teenagers told government-run Radio Mogadishu.
Fighters loyal to al Shabaab took the man's son, Abdikafi Mohammed Rashid,19, and Muhyedin Rashid Hajji, 18, to the town of Belet-weyne, the regional capital of Hiran where the execution took place.
“We heard the brutal killing yesterday afternoon. We don’t why al Shabaab beheaded my son and my nephew,” he lamented, adding that they used the tanker truck to fetch water for internally displaced people in the village of Ba’ad, about five miles outside of Beletweyne.
On March 21, at least two soldiers of Somalia's transitional federal government forces have were killed and scores hurt after al Shabaab militants ambushed a Somali government military base in the Hiran region.
It is not the first the extremists have carried out such actions.
Generally, alleged spies and Christians have been publicly executed. Thieves have had their legs and hands cut off. Women accused of adultery have been beaten and stoned.
Al Shabaab militants have also reportedly forced citizens, including children, to watch the gruesome punishments being meted out.
