The three brothers who were convicted of killing two Omani nationals in Al Ain city were sentenced to death by the Criminal Court in Abu Dhabi, UAE. They were also sentenced to 6 months each for illegal possession of guns and ammunition.
The court ordered confiscation of the seized weapons and the ammunition.
Meanwhile, the first suspect was also sentenced to 3 months in jail for an indecent act committed by him and fined Dhs500 for driving a vehicle recklessly, besides a one-year jail term for possessing a psychotropic substance.
Meanwhile, the convicts’ fourth brother — charged with premeditated murder — was acquitted by the court. Also, two of their relatives, charged with sheltering and assisting fugitives to flee, have been acquitted.
Earlier, the Public Prosecution in Abu Dhabi had accused the 4 brothers of premeditated murder of two Omani nationals, in addition to owning guns without licenses by three of them, while charging two others of hiding and helping fugitives to flee.
The prosecution reportedly testified that the first four suspects had planned to kill one of the victims, to avenge an old dispute between the two families.
The first convict, who was at the wheel of his car, followed the victim’s car and forced him to stop after crashing into his car from behind. Thereafter, they shot him and the other victim who happened to accompany him, the prosecution said. The fifth suspect hid the first suspect in his house, while the sixth attempted to flee from the authorities, the prosecution added.
The produced evidence proved that the brothers had planned to kill their victims. While three of them were found guilty of committing premeditated murder, the fourth was cleared of the charge. After hearing the arguments from the defence lawyers, the court passed its final verdicts.
