in the United Arab Emirates, Afghan national MK, 22, was sentenced to death by the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of First Instance for smuggling 8kg of heroin on June 16. Prosecutors said he sold 5.5kg of heroin to an undercover officer in Abu Dhabi and confessed to police he had drugs in a Dubai hotel room.
MK’s defence lawyer said police had arrested him based on an unreliable investigation. The lawyer also said the prosecutors’ procedures were incorrect because “they did not ask the translator who was allegedly present when the drug was delivered to the policeman”.
