IRAN. HANDS OFF CAIN JOINS EMBASSY DEMONSTRATION AND DENOUNCES FAILURE OF EUROPEAN POLICY
November 2, 2005: Hands Off Cain adheres to the candle light vigil, promoted by the Italian daily Il Foglio, to be held on November 3 in front of the Iranian embassy in Rome and also denounces Europe’s policy of ‘constructive dialogue’ with the Mullah’s regime.
“We will be present at the demonstration in front of the Iranian embassy in Rome because Israel, an example of a state of rights and democracy in the middle east which is more unique than rare, risks being eliminated by the fanaticism of the illiberal regimes which surround it,” declared Hands Off Cain Secretary Sergio D’Elia.
“Following the umpteenth threat to international peace and security by Tehran’s regime, it is time to find a balance to the so called ‘politics of lasting and constructive engagement’ that the European Union has conducted these last few years towards the regime”.
“The results of this policy are there for all to see. Since the beginning of Europe’s constructive engagement, Iran has always been on the world podium of executioners, behind only China in the number of people executed; it has persecuted and killed thousands of political opponents both within its national borders and abroad; now it is trying to arm itself with weapons of mass destruction and directly threatens Israel.”
“We’re not only dealing with Israel’s existence here but also the rights and freedoms of Iranians. Europe’s credibility is also at play. How many more killings and threats will it take before admitting that the European policy of compliance has failed?”. (Sources: Hands Off Cain, 02/11/2005)
