VIETNAM. MAN EXECUTED FOR ZOO MURDER
November 18, 2005: Do Cong Toan, a hired assassin, was executed in Vietnam by a Ho Chi Minh city firing squad for the slashing to death Dang Vu Thang, the deputy chief of the HCM city zoo’s accounting department, in August 2001.
The mastermind, former treasurer of the Saigon Zoo & Botanical Garden, Lam Bich Thuy, was serving a life sentence after proving she only hired Toan to rough up the victim.
Thuy had suspected Thang was responsible for exposing her corruption at the zoo which also involved its director, who was rumored to have an affair with her. (Sources: www.thanhniennews.com, 18/11/2005)
