THE PHILIPPINES. 13 DEATH ROW INMATES RECEIVE STAY OF EXECUTION
December 21, 2005: Philippine President Gloria Arroyo temporarily stayed the execution of 13 death row inmates including 11 convicted rapists.
The convicts, who were all scheduled to die by injection next month, earned 90-day reprieves.
For Jimmy Jacob, convicted of raping his own daughter while she was a minor, it was his 12th reprieve. It was the 10th reprieve for both Pablo Santos and Ireneo Padilla, also convicted of raping their own minor daughters.
Panfilo Quimson, convicted of multiple murder, earned his 10th reprieve, while it was the ninth reprieve for Dindo Pajotal, who killed a man while committing a robbery.
The president also pardoned four male inmates aged at least 70. Three were serving time for rape and the other for homicide. (Sources: Agence France Presse, 21/12/2005)
