CHINA. VIDEO RECORDING TO BE USED IN DEATH SENTENCE CASES
May 23, 2006: China's courts will allow video cameras to record proceedings of appeal hearings involving death sentences, said Chief Justice Xiao Yang.
As of July 1st all appeals of China's death penalty cases will not only be heard in open court, as promised earlier, they will also be video taped, said Xiao at a national working meeting on criminal trials. "Video recording of the entire proceedings will be gradually adopted in appeal hearings of death sentence in open court session so that justice of the process can be ensured," he said.
