SOMALIA. ISLAMIC COURT CARRIES OUT EXECUTION
June 19, 2006: the Islamic shari'ah Ifka Halan court executed Ilmi Ba Hasan Adow, convicted of murdering a man in Afgooye, southern Somalia.
The convict was killed inside the court premises at 5pm by Wali Umar Husayn, brother of the victim Saney Umar Husayn.
Before being masked and shot, Ilmi Ba Hasan expressed his happiness at the verdict and requested the court to pray before his impeding execution. Dahir Umar Husayn, a family member of the executioner, told reporters how happy he was with the way the execution was carried out by the Islamic court, adding that they had refused to accept any blood money by Ilmi Ba Hasanâs family in exchange for his life.
